Steps to follow for Job Search

Now, when you are searching for job, there is a certain strategy which is needed to be followed. As, in mathematics two plus two gives you four whether it is written in English or in Roman, similarly, whether you are looking for Sales or Tech profile, following approach can get you the right job


STEP 1: Job Search – Have a clarity on your career path

This the most important step of the whole job search process. But, very rare candidates give importance to it. I have seen job seekers applying to all available job postings irrespective of company and sector.
You can never get selected in this way and this can only lead to frustration.

Hence, it is important to be specific on following parameters –
– Sector in which you want to build your career
– Role which you want to pursue
– Skills you want to acquire in order to get the desired role. For example – To be an HR Generalist, you should be well versed with the day to day job activities of an HR. You should speak with your HR peers or seniors and try to acquire certain skills via Internship or any good Certification which will boost your confidence and assist you in cracking the interviews.


STEP 2: Job Search – Application building

Once you are clear on your career path, next step is to build your application. Application means your CV/ resume or LinkedIn profile.

Follow these steps to make a solid application:
Target Companies – Make a comprehensive list of at least 25 target companies where you want to go for a job. Counsel with any mentor or any senior which can assist you in building this list.
For example – If you want to go to Edutech sales, your list can include names like – Amity Future Academy, BYJU, Genext Students, Upgrad, Simplilearn, Edureka, Imarticus Learning, Emeritus etc.

LinkedIn – LinkedIn is the most powerful social media platform connecting professionals all over the world. Complete your profile, build your network and stay active.
You may need to invest 2 hours daily over LinkedIn and try to approach recruiters or seniors from your dream organisation

CV – You must have a CV or resume already but we need to take care of few pointers while preparing it –

Keep yourself in the foot of hiring manager’s shoe – It means you should go through JD and company profile comprehensively and see what are the exact requirements of the hiring manager. Try to include certain keywords (which matches the JD) in your CV as it increases the changes of your CV getting shortlisted by ATS (Applicant tracking system)

Make one narrative flowing across CV – Ensure to have one narrative which reflects in all your experiences. For example – If you are a Project Manager, all your experiences should reveal that you are a good manager and can handle multiple projects at a time

Quantify your achievements – Try to mention your achievements with numbers in terms of revenue generated, cost cutting, no. of customers acquired etc.

STEP 3: Job Search – Interview Cracking

Interview cracking also requires preparation. Make answers of certain mandatory questions (which can drive direction of an interview) and practice them several times so that it should appear to an interviewer that you are speaking naturally.

– What are your strengths?
– What are your weakness?
– Behavorial Questions?
– Justify gap in your career? etc.
